Advent 4 – Sunday

Advent4 Sunday

Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.”

Luke 1:45

The writer of Hebrews says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

James says that “faith without works is dead.”

Dad used to say, “Put your money where your mouth is.”

Each of the above talks about a connection between believing and doing. Our Lady believed what was spoken to her would be fulfilled. That’s the key to faith, I think. To believe that what God has spoken is true. That not only is it true, but any promises made will be fulfilled.  If that is so, and I believe it is, then why do we struggle with our faith?  Why do we doubt the promises of God?

Maybe it’s because our perspective of God is something less than accurate. Maybe we believe that God is something less than love. Maybe we hold a belief that God is waiting for us to mess up so that he can punish us. Maybe we had something less than loving parents and we view God based upon our experience with imperfect parents. Maye we had a church leader who made us fear God.  Maybe we don’t believe we are worth the price God paid for each of us.

The birth of his Son must dispel all of these lies.  God is love. God does not want to punish us, he wants to save us from ALL pain and suffering.  GOD IS NOT ANGRY WITH YOU. God is perfect, not like our imperfect parents.  This final week of Advent, please embrace the truth that God loves you so much, he’ll do anything, including allowing his Son to suffer and die for each of us, so that we could embrace his love.

This Advent, if you THINK that God is something less than love, if you THINK that you’re not worth the price he paid for you, DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU THINK!  The lies you believe are  from the pit of hell where the Prince of Darkness dwells. He wants to destroy you and your life. Believe in the Light that has come to bring you out of darkness into his glorious light.

Choose this day to believe what I have said here by walking in this truth.  Put your faith into action and CHOOSE THIS DAY TO BELIEVE IN A LOVING GOD WHO IS OFFERING YOU THE BEST GIFT THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN: His Son Jesus.  Now walk in that truth and believe.

Blessings,
