I rejoiced because they said to me, “We will go up to the house of the LORD.”
Do we go to church each Sunday “rejoicing?” Or do we go out of a sense of duty?
It seems to me that God not only wants us to be joyful Christians when we go to church, he wants us to be grateful ones as well. I think they go hand-in-hand. You can’t have one without the other! Let me explain:
When I am not joyful, I am often looking for what’s missing in my life. I want, want, want what I don’t have. I’m not a happy camper and I’m certainly not grateful. But when I am joyful, I appreciate all that I have; I am grateful. Here are some equations:
Joyful = Being grateful for what I have, what is present in my life
Unhappy=I am focused on what’s missing, what is absent in my life
So, the next time we go to church, let’s rejoice; let’s be grateful for what we have and don’t focus on what’s missing. And maybe, just maybe, if we can do this on Sunday morning, maybe it’ll start to flow into other parts of our week. What do you think?
