Advent 1 – Saturday

Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done wondrous deeds;

Psalm 98:1

When I returned to the faith of my youth, it was a dramatic conversion. I sang a “new song” that acknowledged that there was a force in my life greater than myself.  And each day, with over 30 years behind me since that conversion, I grow in a deeper understanding of how great God truly is.

The program of recovery has a saying, “I know there is a God and I’m not him.”  For me that was a process, an ongoing process to this day. Before my conversion I thought *I* did “wondrous deeds“. I kid you not. I was a legend in my own mind. Today, I see, more and more each day, that I can do nothing, certainly no “wondrous deeds” in and of myself. Anything that I do today is not the incredible Ed Jansen, rather it is God working through me. I am merely a vessel of his “wondrous deeds“.

So my “new song” is precisely that. “I know there is a God and I’m not him.”

What’s your “new song“?
