Advent 2 – Sunday

Although they go forth weeping,
carrying the seed to be sown,
They shall come back rejoicing,
carrying their sheaves.

Psalm 126:6

Mom used to say to her kids when we were going through tough times, “This too shall pass.”

Too often when I’m in the throes of things I forget Mom’s wisdom. I forget that most things in life are impermanent. And when I’m at the end of my troubles, more often than not, I enter into a stage of grace, where my troubles are behind me and I enjoy of sigh of relief. It’s sort of like eating a scrumptious meal. First I’m hungry, then the hunger passes and I’m satisfied. Without the hunger, the meal wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable. We can’t always have the good; we must take the joy with the sorrow, the pain with the relief. The hunger with the satisfaction. (Job 2:10)

Why do you think we resist take the bad in life and only desire the good?

What do you think?
